The Landscape Plan for Nexton New Town weaves a network of public spaces and trails into a new urban development near Charleston in the Historic South Carolina Low Country. KWLS worked in tandem with Hart Howerton, the Urban Design firm, to develop a landscape master plan for the community and located significant buildings and site features such as community centers, swimming pools, and postal pavilions. The project site is densely planted pine plantation which had little biodiversity. The master plan seeks to restore the site’s natural integrity by extensive use of native plants and recreating habitats as part of the landscape vision and quality of place. KWLS designed several parks, pavilions, and a swim club in Nexton with Seamon Whiteside serving as Landscape Architect of Record.
