Zoe Edgecomb
Zoé is a landscape architect and artist with a strong interest in how humans connect with the land through making, designing and building. She earned a BFA in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1993. She then taught woodworking at the middle school level for several years, and in her spare time built a house, taking on all aspects of construction from foundation to wiring. A few years later she returned to academia, obtaining master’s degrees in Architecture and Landscape Architecture at the University of Virginia. She focused on ecologically responsive practices, with an especially strong interest in hydrological systems from residential to infrastructural and ecological scales. After graduation, Zoé started a design-build practice, working on small-scale landscape and building projects both residential and commercial, and earning a Class A contractors’ license. She later joined the Charlottesville office of Oculus, where she worked on historic preservation and other projects of cultural significance, including Anacostia National Park and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.
Zoé began working with KWLS in 2010, taking a break to return to her own practice for a few years and returning in 2021. With KWLS, she has worked on several planned residential communities, including Nexton Brighton Park Village; academic campuses, and private residential projects both small and large. She is especially involved with structures and built elements in the landscape. She now works for the office remotely, living in Karlsruhe, Germany.
